Project Interface
Besides running the experiment, the project interface is the user-linked aspect of the
experiment. This allows direct communication with the planet window, as well as basic
Windows interactivity. It features a drop-down menu, toolbars, and a status bar.
Some of the features of the interface include:
The ability to drop any supported Atoms, Molecules, Particles, and Cells into the planet window;
The ability to import, merge, and export planet data as a file or in memory;
The ability to save status bar data and snapshots as familiar windows formats;
The ability to name a planet;
The ability to modify the temperature of a planet, from static to maximum capability;
The ability to listen to an external MP3 file which sets itself to play at the frequency of the amount of objects on-screen;
The printing of reactions taking place in the status bar;
The printing of quantities and totals of elements on the titlebar;
Planet Window
The planet window is the actual experiment portion in A-Life. If runs the program code as well as the instructions given by the project interface. It passes all outgoing data to the project interface as it draws and organizes all objects on the screen, keeping them from leaving the visible portion, creating and destroying data, adjusting the speeds of the objects to fit the system processor, and simulating the environmental effects every millisecond. The planet window can be upgraded easily, because it is external, so extra combination definitions can be added by Slawdog at any time.
