This topic contains a list of the most frequent questions about Smart Shutdown, discovered as a result feedback collected by us for an extended period of time. Q: Hang up feature does not work, what is wrong?

A: The hang up feature should be tuned at once before it is used on your system. To learn how, read the instructions located in Hang Up Properties dialog documentation.

 

Q: My computer was not turned off/rebooted/logged off...

A: Some software prevents Smart Shutdown from turning off/rebooting/logging off your computer. A list of such issues are mentioned in the Known issues page.

 

Q: Standby feature does not work on my computer, which runs Windows NT 3.51 or 4.0, though Smart Shutdown displays this option.

A: This feature is not supported by those operating systems. This feature is not disabled because of complicity of doing so. It might be fixed in future versions.

 

Q: Some shutdown function does not work or behaves incorrectly.

A: Please make sure that this function is supported by your operation system and test it using standard method (For testing reboot function click Start -> Shut down -> Choose reboot -> Click OK. This example is valid only for Windows 95/98/Me; In other operating system those instructions do not differ much from mentioned one.). If you experience the same problem, possibly such behavior is caused by hardware incompatibility. Otherwise, please notify Slawdog about this issue.

 

Q: When I turn on my computer Windows tells me about improper shutdown and launches scandisk program, after computer was turned off using Smart Shutdown.

A: Make sure that Forced Execution (Fast Shutdown) feature is disabled.

 

Q: How I can get Slawdog Smart Shutdown keep the settings active after my computer was turned off/rebooted....?

A: This feature is implemented in Smart Shutdown LX.

 

Q: When I launch Smart Shutdown, it displays message: "Entry Point not Found. The procedure entry point XXXXX could not be located in the dynamic link library YYYYY.dll" or "missing export YYYYY.dll:XXXXX" or similar messages that require some files, entry points or exports and does not allow program to start. (XXXXX - Any word, YYYYY - Any file name)

A: Such messages indicate that some components or files, which are required for Slawdog Smart Shutdown to work, are missing or their version is old. Please notify Slawdog about this problem, so we will be able to release a patch, which would include such files and components, and update the installation package.
